Invitation from the Reserva Playa Tortuga:
We would like to invite you to participate in our SEA TURTLE FESTIVAL on Saturday, November 28th at Playa Ventanas (click for map), from 9:00 am until 04:00 pm.
It will provide an opportunity for the Reserva to promote a culture that provides protection and a healthy environment for the sea turtlesand their nesting sites.
We will have activities for all ages:
– A puppet show
– Artistic presentations
– A short talk
– A Volleyball Tournament
– Live Music
Come join us and enjoy all the activities, which are free.
Please note that the regular payment for parking for visitors will still be required
If you would like to help in making this Festival a success, but do not know how, here are some suggestions:
– You or one of your paid workers can assist in transporting materials to the beach.
– Reserva Playa Tortuga is raising funds to ensure that all activities and a meal are free for children. If you want to contribute, you can come to the RPT building and make a donation or buy raffle tickets at 1500 colones each. The prize will be an adult and a child RPT T-shirt and a cap.
– Please spread the word.
Our community has the privilege of having Playa Tortuga as a nesting site of the Olive Ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) and Playa Ventanas as a foraging site for the Hawksbill turtles (Lepidochelys imbricata).
All sea turtles are endangered, and one of the greatest threats to the survival of these charismatic species is the accumulation of solid waste on beaches and oceans, besides the illegal extraction of their eggs.
