Uvita is the town just north of Villa Mariposa along the Costanera Highway 34 and features a full set of services – two fully-stocked grocery stores with good collections of beer and wine, many North American canned and boxed products in addition to local produce, two pharmacies, both with English-speaking pharmacists, a medical clinic, gas station and a number of restaurants.
There are also two banks, the Banco Costa Rica (BCR) and the Banco National.
The Dome Restaurant is nestled inside the U-shaped Dome Plaza just south of the bridge and has a very good kitchen. The Marina Ballena is a more traditional Tico restaurant with the added feature of flat screen TVs showing primarily sports. Also, there’s a Pizza Restaurant (off the main road with a “PIZZA” sign) that serves up an array of pizzas, all very good.
South of Uvita is the road to the National park and the Whales Tail, a rock and sand formation that is only accessible during low tide. The road to the Whales Tail is identified by a red-roofed bus stop at one corner of the intersection.
